DAY Four of the Aegon GB Pro-Series Wirral was one of upsets, with three of the four players making it through to the last four being un-seeded.

First match on court three at Wirral Tennis Centre saw Team Gosling training partners, George Coupland and Dave Rice, face each other.

Rice, seeded two, and winner in Sheffield last week, had his work cut out against the big serving opponent, with Coupland edging the first set 6-4.

The US College graduate really imposed his aggressive game in the second set for a 6-4 6-2 victory.

Meanwhile, the adjourning court saw an intriguing matchup between two un-seeded players.

Luke Bambridge, 18, from Nottingham managed to find a way past the trickery of the ambidextrous Nicolas Rosenzweig in a contest with many twists and turns 7-6 4-6 6-4, to set up a semi-final clash with another un-seeded player, Tom Farquharson.

Farquharson had impressively dispatched James Marsalek for the loss of only three games on Wednesday, and the Londoner was equally as ruthless against top seed and Wirral reigning champion Ed Corrie, again winning for the loss of only three games.

Third seed Dan Smethurst is the one remaining seed left in the men’s singles after beating fellow Nottingham Tennis Academy training partner George Morgan 6-3 6-4.

Smethurst, 23, has had a blistering start to 2014 with three pro-singles finals, including one title, plus an Aegon British Tour Tier One title in the opening four weeks of the year.

The doubles semi-finals on Thursday saw a mouth-watering clash between top seeds Dave Rice and Sean Thornley, up against third seeds Luke Bambridge and Ross Hutchins.

As in the previous round, the crowd were treated to some exceptional doubles play, with the third seeds once again recovering from the loss of the first set to make Friday's final with a 5-7 6-3 [10-7] win.

Second seeds Ed Corrie & Dan Smethurst, who won last week's doubles title in Sheffield, comfortably beat Piotr Lomacki & Giorgio Lomacki 6-1 6-2 to secure their place in Friday’s doubles climax.
