Wirral Globe: Lowe's late goal leads Tranmere Rovers to victory over MK Dons Lowe's late goal leads Tranmere Rovers to victory over MK Dons

A LATE goal from MK Dons old-boy Ryan Lowe earned Tranmere Rovers a 1-0 win against the Dons.

The striker finished from close range to earn Ronnie Moore's side a 2013-14 league double over the Dons and their first ever win at Stadium:Mk.

Moore had made two changes to the team the side that were beaten 2-1 by Rotherham at Prenton Park on Tuesday night. Jason Koumas and Liam Ridehalgh replaced Jake Kirby and Evan Horwood.

With the sides looking set to share the points, Tranmere struck the winning blow in the 90th minute.

A corner from Koumas was cleared back as far as the midfielder who found Jennings.

He spotted the run of Cassidy and his low ball across the six yard box was turned in by Lowe at the far post.

The home side pushed for a late equaliser, but the Rovers defence held out for a vital three points.

Moore was delighted. In his post-match interview, he said: “We don't get too much here, but staying in the game was the big thing.

"We weren't brilliant in the first-half and we had a little pop at half-time about being more adventurous and having a bit of belief that we could win the game because I always thought we could.

“In the second-half they came out and gave everything they've got and that's all you can ask of them.

"We caused our own problems. We needed to push up ten or 15 yard. Once we did it and condensed the areas there was nowhere for them to go and they had to hit long balls, which suited us.”

He continued: "I thought the back four were good - and they had to be. In the first-half we gave them too many chances.

“We got caught with one long ball over the top and that will be the second or third time we've been caught with that so we need to do a bit of work on it.

"But we grew with belief and if you're going to score a goal that's the time to do it.

"The fans were fantastic. They made the trip all the way down here and it's great for them going home with that result."
