MEN’S international pro tennis returns to Wirral this weekend.

The Aegon GB Pro-Series Wirral takes place at Wirral Tennis and Leisure Centre from Sunday, February 2 until Saturday, February 8.

The tournament is an ITF Pro Circuit Men’s £6,036 ($10,000) event with a blend of British and overseas players all on the entry list.

All the world’s top players sharpened their pro careers at this level and a number of those in action at the Wirral series are steadily working their way up the rankings in their quest to reach the top.

British number five Ed Corrie – who is the highest ranked player in the men’s event – will be returning to Wirral having won the title in 2013.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to coming back. Obviously I have good memories from last year, and the atmosphere at the venue is excellent, particularly with the spectators who come out to watch the final.

“We are made to feel very welcome by everyone and I hope to do well again this year.”

Last year’s runner-up, Dan Smethurst, will also be returning.

The Mancunian, who has had a great start to the year so far, will be joined by 20-year-old Liam Broady, from Stockport – who is currently at a career high of 468.

Other entrants include Ellesmere Port’s Jordon McCulloch, Liverpool’s Harry Meehan, Bolton’s George Morgan and Chorley’s Imran Aswat
Richard Joyner, tournament director, said: “We’re really looking forward to returning to the Wirral.
