AS expected, the bad weather is now setting in and Wirral Council had to close all grounds due to waterlogged pitches, which of course will have a detrimental effect on scheduled fixtures and the cancelled domestic cup games will now take place in February.

Luckily two games did progress and saw West Kirby Wasps oust previously unbeaten Christleton Youth out of the Youth Division's Cup quarter-finals with the winning goal coming in extra time after the game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.

On target for Christleton were Joe Kirk and Matty Blount, but bagging the goals for Wasps were Tommy Johnstone and Tyler Ward with a brace, with his second being the extra time winner in this 3-2 result.

The only other game saw Great Float S&S washed away in the Cheshire FA Cup when going down 5-1 at Cale Green, with Sean Parrington being their lone scorer.

The lull in games allows me to report that the league still have teams competing in all competitions, with Liscard Bronze the standard bearers in the semi-finals of the Wirral FA Premier Cup; Millhouse are within one game of the last four of the Cheshire FA Sunday Cup and both Sheridans and Ship Wallasey are in the draw of the Wirral FA Junior Cup semi-finals.

AM Plant Hire are also hopeful of reaching the final of the Wirral FA Amateur Cup with only a semi-final to win.

The only youth team remaining in the Cheshire FA Youth Cup are Vauxhall Colts who need to navigate two more fixtures to reach the final.

The semi-finals of the Wirral FA Youth Cup sees Ashville Youth, Christleton, Vauxhall Colts and West Kirby Wasps all vying for the final two places.

At times like these it gives the league the chance to thank the local press for their excellent support and so we hope Corinthian (Pink Echo) and Craig Manning (Wirral Globe) continue to provide good coverage for the league on a weekly basis.

It is also a time when members of the League Management Committee should be thanked for their voluntary services, which they provide with dedication and unstinting commitment that allows the league to run smoothly.

The website manager, both of the registrars, the treasurer and those who attend grounds each and every week give the league a solid base and a working platform that is vital for league stability.

Their work ethic should never be forgotten and every club should appreciate the effort made by these unsung heroes.
