MOTORS picked up a point from an away trip to Gainsborough Trinity in the Skrill North.

Matty Williams' 58th minute strike was cancelled out by Simon Russell's late equaliser for the hosts.

The first-half was a quiet affair with both sides having to deal with the windy conditions at the Northolme.

Neither side created too many clear-cut chances in that opening 45 minutes, but Motors' goalkeeper Zac Jones did make a couple of good saves to keep out efforts by Brad Barraclough.

The second-half was much better and the Motormen took the lead on 58 minutes.

A free-kick was only partially cleared as far as Matty Williams who only had one thought in his mind as he rifled the ball home off the underside of the crossbar from 25 yards.

Vauxhall were inches away from a second goal soon after as striker Steven Tames fired a low shot which beat Trinity ‘keeper Phil Barnes but rebounded off the post.

Gainsborough pushed hard to get back into the game and grabbed an equaliser with 12 minutes remaining. Simon Russell struck a fine effort from 25 yards which went past Jones and into the net.

The point for Motors moves us up into 11th position in the Skrill North table ahead of the busy festive fixtures which kick-off with a home match against Hednesford Town this Saturday December 21, 3pm kick-off.

For Vauxhall's home game against Harrogate Town on December 28, the club are running a 'Pay What You Want' admission initiative, with a minimum admission price set at £1 per person.

Chairman Alan Bartlam said: "We obviously hope that this will draw other football fans to come along to Rivacre Park on the 28th for this special offer, but it is our own supporters that this is specifically targeted at, purely as a thank-you from the club for your magnificent support."
