THE Maghull juggernaut gathered further momentum towards its first Carlsberg West Cheshire League Division One title after efforts from Colin McDonald and Mick McGinn clinched a hard earned 2-0 decision over bottom club Upton AA.

That result saw the runaway leaders extend their advantage to 18 points and suggests perhaps that champagne corks could popping sooner rather than later.

Nearest rivals Hale continued their fine run of form after Peter Doran (3) and Carl Latham netted in the 5-3 eclipse of West Kirby, while Ashville’s challenge went into reverse after they capitulated 3-0 to a hat trick from Southport Trinity’s Dan Hastings.

Result of the day belonged to Chester Nomads who destroyed the league's best defensive record when Simon Andrews (2), Dale Harris (2), Mark Chard (2) and Jack Delgado obliged in the 7-1 rout of fourth-placed Mossley Hill Athletic.

A brace of penalties from Ashley Hawthorne, helped Marshalls to a 2-0 win at Mersey Royal, while Farshad Parvas also scored twice as Maghull Reserves enjoyed a 5-3 success at Heswall Reserves.

Jake Connolly (2) and Brad Sherwood scored for Redgate Rovers in a 3-3 nail-biter with Gateacre Village, who hit back via Johnny Deus (2) and Scott Willis.

Saturday's Division Three action saw leaders St Helens Town Reserves stay four points in credit,after Liam Houghton (2), Kyle Ross (2) and Paul Cook- Hannah found the net in a 5-0 win at Capenhurst Villa Reserves.

The same scoreline was also recorded by second placed Ford Motors at Marshalls Reserves; Terry Keenan (2), Liam Sumner, Dan Tree and Adam Daniels netted for the victors.

A solitary effort from Carter Costello sealed the issue for Bootle Reserves at Christleton Reserves but efforts from Nick Smith (2) and Steve Rowland failed to prevent Upton AA from losing 7-3 to Kirkby Town Railway.
