Wirral Sunday League: Pyke Cup win

HATS off to Division One pacesetters, Higher Bebington RBL, who pulled the mat from under current Premier Division leaders, Neston Nomads, and deservedly secured their passage to the Wirral Sunday League's Pyke Cup third round.

A two-goal blast from Dale Morris allied to a Victor Thurgill effort set up the 3-0 victory, as last term's finalists made an untimely exit.

There was another shock result, as Premier side, Towers, the holders, were sent toppling and relinquished their grip on the trophy, after they capitulated 4-2 at home to Division Two promotion chasers, Port Sunlight, while another giant killing took place at Ness Park, where Division Two's Wirral Athletic called time on Premier Division counterparts, Riverside.

A Reece Mearns double, together with further efforts from Rob Manger and Ian Harrison confirmed the shock 4-1 scoreline.

In contrast, Division Two leaders, Champions Bar, ensured that the outcome ran true to form, when they put luckless Grange through the mincerat Rycroft.

Jamie Rainford and Ben Percival both bagged hat tricks, while Jamie Payne(2) Jamie Stott (2), Paul Edwards, Andy Mallion and Graham Thomas also got in on the act, as Champs posted a 13-0 result.

On the mark for Lever Bushell Ath, in their 4-2 decision over Forum Ath, were Adam Corless (2) Danny Wood and Jack Taylor.

Mike Dunn and Dave Sampson netted Forum's consolations and another side who had to return their cup final suits, were Star Ozzys who scored through Darren Povall, but dipped 8-1 at home to a rampant Bebington.

Stuart Hardman (3) Darren Graham (2) Paul Anthony, Carl Smith and Alan Craize were the goalscorers.

Bromborough gave a good account of themselves, before they lost out to Shore Villa in a five goal thriller. Villa scored through Danny Morgan, Stu Green and the winner from Tommy Morgan.

Premier Div. outfit, Kent must now fancy their chances, after they took Primrose Liscard's scalp.

Danny Morley (2), Connor Duffy, Callum Allcock and Anthony Rowan all hit the target in Sunday's 5-1 triumph at Jericho Lane.

On the league scene, Bromborough Social eroded Higher Bebington RBL's lead at the top of Division One to a single point, as a result of their 3-1 success at MSC Eastham. Joe Hardy netted for the hosts.

In Division Two, Gladstone Ath.'s chance to turn one of their games in hand into points, backfired after they crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Bronze, who sealed the win, with goals from man of the match Lee Moon(2) Alan Fowlie and Dave Sampson.

Julian Gorbutt snatched the game's only goal, as Greave overcame third placed Halfway House.
