FORM sides Neston Nomads and Towers locked horns in an epic Wirral Sunday League Premier Division clash.

It was reigning champions Nomads who showed their mettle after they came from behind twice and eventually triumphed 6-3.

Kyle Williams and Dave Favager put the visitors 2-0 up before efforts from Kevin Williams and Ian Cross levelled the issue.

Towers then regained the lead via Mike Neish, but unbeaten Nomads, inspired by two-goal Paul Ellison, came back strongly after the break and as a result drew eight points clear at the top.

Further efforts from Richie Foulkes and Lee Cairns completed the statistics.

Division One leaders Bebington extended their advantage to four points but forfeited their 100% record, and failed to score for the first time this season, after they finished 0-0 with Wallasey Athletic Town in a keenly contested tussle.

In Division Two, Bromborough climbed to fourth place, after they won 3-1 at newcomers, Grange.

Man of the match Martin Birkett plundered two goals and ace marksman Lewy Galloway also made the score sheet.

The tightest game in Sunday's Pyke Cup first round featured Premier Division rivals Victoria Colts Snrs and Liverpool-based Riverside.

The game was settled in extra time, before efforts from Vics' Dave Evans and Alan Fowlie were negated by replies from the visitors' Chris Maddocks and James Taylor.

Hero of the hour, was Riverside's player manager, Carl Rice, who came on and bagged a dramatic.

Premier side Shore Villa accounted for Division Two minnows Bronze after Adam Coulls (2) and Mike Ryan found the net in Sunday's 3-1 success, and it was hats off to Star Ozzys who pulled the mat from under Division Two promotion chasers Gladstone Athletic. Bobby Bradley and Darren Povall were on the mark in a narrow 2-1 victory.

MSC Eastham's progress was interrupted after they fell foul of Division One title contenders Higher Bebington RBL, who savoured a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Aaron Buckley (2), Chris Clark and Gary Squibb.

Dave Hird and Rob Manger delivered for Wirral Athletic as the Neston outfit accounted for Halfway House 2-0, and despite a fine goal from Andy Painter, it was curtains for Greave who dipped 3-1 at Primrose Liscard.

Best of luck this weekend to Wirral Sunday sides Higher Bebington RBL and Forum Athletic who will be contesting places in the Wirral & District FA's Sunday Amateur Cup semi-finals, when they take on AM Plant Hire and FC Vaults respectively.
