Sailing: Hoylake and West Kirby take top two places
WEST Kirby and Hoylake Sailing Club claimed the top two places in Liverpool Yacht Club's Annual Commodore’s Cup race on the River Mersey.
Phil Shepherd, the West Kirby Vice-Commodore, sailing Ulula was first to finish and had enough time in hand to lift the trophy.
Hoylake Commodore Gavin Melling in Bada Bing was fourth over the line and made up to the runners-up spot on corrected times.
Several local clubs took part in the 47th annual West Lancashire Yacht Club's Twenty Four Hour race at Southport.
Hoylake finished tenth in Enterprise and in a creditable 27th position overall. They were also placed third in the list of Masters teams.
West Kirby in a Firefly took 34th place overall with a joint Liverpool and Manchester University team in the same class of dinghy just above them in 32nd.
Liverpool/Tranmere in an Enterprise were in 61st and last place in their first venture into the event.
South Staffs Sailing Club won the 24 Hour Trophy sailing a GP14. Budworth were runners-up. The first six places went to GPs.
The first Enterprise in seventh was sailed by Pilkington. The first Lark in 12th was in the hands of the Lark Class Association.
The first Firefly in 18th place was handled by West Oxfordshire Sailing Club The 2012 winners Hollingworth Lake were down to 22nd place this time.
