Entertaining draw for Motormen
2:36pm Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Sport
VAUXHALL Motors played out an entertaining 2-2 draw against Boston United at Rivacre Park, with a spectacular last minute equaliser by Boston's Marc Newsham denying them a win, writes Paul Harper.
After a bright start from the visitors, it was Vauxhall who took the lead on nine minutes.
Louis Barnes did well to get to the byline and his pin-point cross was turned home at the back post by Chris Noone.
It was soon 2-0, as Noone doubled his tally. Matty Williams played in a delightful diagonal ball to the right edge of the penalty area and Noone fired home with a sweetly struck volley.
With Vauxhall in the ascendency, the referee denied them from taking a 3-0 lead as Karl Noon's strike was ruled out for offside.
Boston pulled a goal back a minute before the break as a cross from the left was flicked on by Newsham with Spencer Weir Daley tapping home into an empty net.
The second half saw the Pilgrims press for an equaliser. Ricky Miller had a shot saved by Zac Jones before firing over from a tight angle.
Midway through the second period, the hosts enjoyed some pressure but a Danny Fearnehough blocked shot was the sum of their efforts.
The equaliser finally came in the final minute of normal time in spectacular style, with Marc Newsham volleying into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
