Noon seals the points for Motormen
MOTORS maintained their unbeaten start to the Skrill North season with a 1-0 victory at Workington.
They raced to a quick start with Ashley Stott hitting the crossbar after just four minutes.
The only goal, securing Motors’ first Borough Park success for over seven years, came after 12 minutes when Workington keeper Jonny Mitchell was caught out of position and in-form striker Karl Noon’s cross come shot looped over him and into the net.
Further pressure was exerted on the Workington goal but another goal failed to materialise as the teams went in with Motors a goal to the good.
The second half saw the home team come into it a lot more as they pressed for an equaliser.
Despite that, Andy Nicholas came close to a second Motors goal but his effort rebounded off the crossbar.
Motors held on to their advantage and move up to 7th position in the Skrill North table.
Meanwhile, Vauxhall Motors will host a development team from Skybet League One side Peterborough United in a fixture at Rivacre Park on Tuesday September 3 with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Posh have began the season superbly well with a 100% record in the league so far and are through to the second round of the Capital One Cup, so it will be a great test for the Motormen.
Chairman Alan Bartlam explained how the fixture has come about, "We had dialogue with Peterborough director of football, Barry Fry, about Paul Taylor a couple of years ago.
They took him on contract and he had a really good season and got transferred to Ipswich and we have maintained dialogue ever since.
Admission prices have been reduced for this fixture to £6 for adults, £3 concessions and students and £1 for under-16s.
