SAILING: Wirral youngsters in the Cadet National Championships
SEVERAL of the West Kirby Sailing Club youngsters are taking part in the Cadet National Champion ships organised by South Caernarvon Yacht Club this week.
Meanwhile local sailing resumed after the Menai Strait Fortnight.
At Hoylake Caroline Watt won the annual Ladies race in Aida. Series races went to Gavin Melling in La Tosca and Andrew Stratton in Silvana.
There is still a busy programme ahead before the main season ends in early October.
The Falcon Class Championship is scheduled for the weekend of September 7/8 and the West Lancashire Yacht Club Twenty Four Hour race is set for the same dates.
Also on September 7 Liverpool Yacht Club/Tranmere Sailing Club hold their annual Invitation Commodore’s Cup event on the Mersey for local club clubs.
Overall winners in the recently completed Menai Strait Regattas Fortnight included Hirondelle (Chris Riley and family) in the West Kirby Hilbres, Jupiter (David Mayhew) in the West Kirby Stars, Fidelio (Steve Stratton) in the Hoylake Operas and Mercantile (John Walsby-Tickle) in the Mersey Mylnes.
The overall Falcon prize was claimed by Fiddlers Ferry entrant Rod Backhouse in Lanner.
