VAUXHALL Motors and Stalybridge Celtic shared the spoils with a 0-0
draw in an uneventful 90 minutes at Rivacre Park.
Karl Noon had the first chance of the game for the home side as he
burst clear down the left but his shot was saved by Alex Cairns in the
Celtic goal.
The visitors then had the majority of possession but they were
restricted to just shots from distance. Adam Pepper and Greg Wilkinson
warmed the hands of Motors' shot-stopper Zac Jones with powerful low
efforts from 25 yards.
The best chance of the half came on the stroke of half-time. Tom
Buckley played Chris Hall racing through on goal but Jones rushed off
his line and made a good save to deny the striker.
It was a very quiet second half. Motors defender Andy Nicholas headed
a Karl Clair free-kick over the bar, while at the other end, Wilkinson
again tried his luck from distance with a couple of low drives which
Jones stopped.
Stalybridge were denied a winner on 84 minutes. A free-kick from the
right ricocheted to Hall whose out-stretched leg diverted the ball
into the bottom corner of the net past Jones, but their celebrations
were cut short with the linesman flagging for offside.
Lewis Hatch hit a volley wide before the final whistle ended a
disappointing game of football.
This Saturday, March 23, Motors are away to league newcomers and
play-off hopefuls Brackley Town. Kick-off will be at 3pm.
