FORM side West Kirby continued their excellent run, with a 4-1 result at Chester Nomads in the Carlsberg West Cheshire League's Pyke Cup 2nd round.
Eight times winners, Kirby, who last won the trophy in 2006, posted a 4-1 result. Goal-a game Mike McGraa and Chris Barrow bagged two goals apiece with Dale Harris in reply for the hosts.
Despite a goal from Mark Bainbridge, Vauxhall Motors Res capitulated to a smart double from Heswall's Paul Howell, while Newton saw off Christleton, with Lee Kissock and Liam Smith on the mark, in Saturday's 2-0 victory at Millcroft.
Ashville went down 3-1 at home to Heswall in their midweek league fixture, and their misery was compounded, after they went out of the Pyke, following a 3-0 defeat at Mossley Hill Ath. Yusef Malik, Jamie Halligan and Kurt Sherlock obliged for the hosts.
In the Liverpool County FA Youth Cup semi-finals, a double from Kieran Owens clinched Gateacre Youth's place in the final after they overcame Copperas Hill 2-1 and they'll face Bootle Youth in the final after a solitary effort from Jack Charnock put paid to Churchtown Jaguars.
Extra-time proved South Liverpool's downfall in the County FA Challenge Cup quarter finals, after they conceded four without reply in the added period.
Saturday's Division One action saw Cammell Laird Res. wrestle top spot from Heswall, thanks to a 1-0 triumph at Upton AA and inspired by a two goal blast from Sean Callund, Hale savoured a 4-1 success at Southport Trinity.
Further efforts from Sean Wright and Wayne Smith completed the scoring. Ben Purdue hit Trinity's consolation.
Heswall's second string were elevated to third place in Division Two, after they beat Prescot Cables Res. 3-1 with goals from Steve France, Gordon Harrison and Colin Cunliffe, while Marshalls were indebted to singles from Steve Forth and Craig Robins for their 2-1 result over Bebington Ath.
A double from chunky striker, Tommy Baker, was supplemented by further efforts from Matty Boyd and Paul Rowlands as West Kirby Res. beat Mossley Hill Ath. Res. 4-2. Ninety minutes failed to produce a goal between Manor Ath. and Capenhurst Villa.
Mark Brady hit the target for Belfry, in their Division Three clash at Neston Nomads, but the third placed challengers saw their promotion hopes evaporate further, after Nomads emerged 3-1 victors, courtesy of replies from Lee Cairns, Dean Jones and Mark Nokes.
Goals from Mike McCallum and Alan Bond assured Chester Nomads Res. of a 2-1 win at Hale Res., and a single strike from James Browne, earned Marshalls Res., maximum spoils from their trip to Capenhurst Villa Res.
Honours were shared, after South Liverpool Res. finished 0-0 with title favourites, Gateacre, and it was also a point apiece, after Bebington Ath.Res. and Upton AA Res drew 1-1.
