THE Birkenhead Sunday League fixture list was again decimated due to the weekend’s icy conditions.
However, Kieran Hughes didn’t feel under the weather, as he struck a hat-trick for Merebrook in the Tony Smith Cup; Carl Boyd hit two and Jim O’Toole one as Merebrook triumphed 6-1 against FC Ridger.
Joining them in the next round are PSV Athletic who beat AFC Houlihans 2-0, with goals from Jake Wood and Barry Huxley and Millcroft, who won 1-0 at Ashville Old Boys thanks to a Dan Kerr strike.
Si Longstaffe scored the winner two minutes from the end of Vauxhall Colts' Cheshire Cup fifth round victory over Unicorn Athletic; Luke Hitchmough grabbing the other goal in a 2-1 win.
Armchair Alliance went out of the Wirral Junior Cup losing 3-1 at Ship; Robert Marrs getting Armchair’s consolation. New Ferry Rangers continued their good form with goals from Brown (2), Tidswell, Gouldson and Horner, to beat Woodward 5-1 in the Rocky’s Gym Cup.
In the only Premier Division game, Adam Lea, Joe Sephton, Ryan Thompson and Shaun Turner scored for Shore Villa, in a 4-1 result over bottom of the table Laird’s Sports Club.
Steve Large (2), Mike Ballard, James Smith, Mike Davies and Lee Griffiths all registered for Shaftesbury Youth “A, in their Division One 6-2 victory against AFC Arrowe Park; Tom Lang and Nick Kyriazi replying for Park.
In Division Two, Riley's FC (Noonan 2) won 2-1 at Farmers Arms Moreton and in Division Three, Liam Rose hit a hat-trick, Leon Jones two and Mike Bowe one, as Victoria hit six without reply at Shawcross.
The only Youth Division result of the day saw Glenavon Colts (Woods 2, Kendrick-Hall, Lunt, Atherton, Deehan) beat Cammell Laird Youth (Dean Foster) 6-1.
