BROMBOROUGH Pool Primary School has become the latest victim of the Wirral Council's review of primary school places.
The school, which has just 50 pupils, will close at the end of the school year in July, 2007, when pupils will move to other schools in the area.
Councillors voted to close the school in a meeting on Monday evening despite objections received from 18 parents and governors.
The closure followed a consultation period which began following a review of primary provision last October. Two other primaries have already been axed.
Howard Cooper, council director of children's services, said: "The reality is that there are too many primary places in Wirral and we have been told by the Audit Commission we must reduce them and use public money wisely. Unfortunately, Bromborough Pool only has 50 pupils.
"No-one closes a school lightly. However, as planners of education for future generations, the council has to be responsible and make some very difficult decisions.

"The closure, while unfortunate, is necessary to ensure that limited resources are used appropriately to give all school children in Wirral the best education possible."
