THE Church of England is urging residents in Eastham to attend a public meeting that could save St Mary's School from closure.
Wirral Council has proposed that the 150-year-old school be closed as part of its review of primary school places.
But the Diocese has objected, saying the school, which has more than 100 pupils, has a viable future and must be given a chance to improve and develop.
And a public meeting will be held tonight, May 2, when the official schools' adjudicator will listen to objections to closure.
If the adjudicator is persuaded of the case for keeping the school open, he could overrule Wirral Council's closure plan.
The meeting starts at 6.30pm and takes place in the Parish Church of St Mary the Blessed Virgin.
