IN THE PINK: Staff and pupils from Prenton Primary flying the flag for Race For Life
PUPILS and staff from Prenton Primary School are among the 4,500 women due to take part in the UK Cancer Research Race For Life this weekend.
The 22-strong team in Sunday's race at Birkenhead Park will include parents, support staff and school office manager Elaine Fillingham, all taking part in the Globe-backed event for the first time.
"We have people in the school who have been affected by the disease. The race is an absolutely fantastic worthy cause that everyone should support.
"It's the first we have put a team together and we have some very fit people in the group who train on a regular basis.
"We don't have a set target to raise, and we have sent letters out to parents asking for their support."
Among those who responded to their plea for help was local businessman Simon Harding, who read about the team in the school's newsletter.

Simon, whose son attends the school, has pledged £350 for the fundraising efforts, with some of the cash being used to buy and print T-shirts worn by them on the day.
Sunday's event starts at 11am.
Race for Life is the UK's largest women-only fundraising event where women of all ages and fitness levels walk, jog, or run 5k and raise money for vital research into the disease.
The team from Prenton Primary will join 750,000 women across the country taking part at Race for Life events, together raising up to £50m
The money will help fund Cancer Research UK's life-saving research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a disease that will affect more than one in three people in the UK at some point in their lives.
For the third year running, the Globe has been chosen as official sponsor for the event.
Helen Wright, race organiser, said: "We are delighted that the Wirral Globe has given us such great suppport and that so many women have responded to our invitation to join us this year.
"We hope to have a real party atmosphere on the day.
"The Wirral event is always a fantastic experience, with local women uniting to make a positive difference to the lives of people touched by cancer."

They are racing for all who have been touched by cancer, for those who survive, those who still fight and those who are now at peace. Let's hope the sun shines on Sunday!!
