IF you are planning to take part in this year's Tesco Race For Life and raise funds for cancer research make sure you sign up soon.

So far 1,335 people have signed up for the two races held in Birkenhead Park on Sunday June 3, leaving just over 5000 places to fill.

But with the Chester race now full to capacity its organiser Katherine Culshaw is confident places on the Wirral event will soon disappear.

"The fact that Chester is now closed will have a knock-on effect with people who will want to join the nearest one, so will flock to Birkenhead," Katherine told the Globe. "Spaces will dwindle in no time, so it's very important that people sign up now to avoid disappointment."

Supported by Tesco the 5km event is open to women of all ages and fitness levels.

The Globe has once again been chosen as official newspaper for this year's Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK.

It will be the seventh time Wirral has hosted the event and we'll keep you up-to-date with all the news and information you need.

Last year 5,000 Wirral women took part and raised £282,676. Cancer Research UK also set two Guinness World Records - one for the most participants stretching simultaneously' and the second for the most participants in a multi-location 5km race'.

The Birkenhead Park races start at 11am and 3pm. If you would like to add your name to the list of those already signed up, visit www.raceforlife.org/enternow for full details on registering.

This year's Wirral target is £397,100. Nationally, the charity hopes that 750,000 women will enter and raise £60 million.

Patron Gloria Hunniford said: "We know that Race for Life holds a special place in many women's hearts and hope that together we will beat cancer."
