A world record has been set in London this morning – the world’s biggest free-floating bubble has been blown.

Measuring a whopping 23.3 cubic metres – the size of two family cars or 150,000 tennis balls – it was created on the South Bank by the London Eye by Londoner Samsam Bubbleman.

It was a tenth world record for Samsam, who has ‘bubbled’ at the London Olympics opening ceremony as well as for the likes of the Royal Family, JK Rowling and Shakira over the past 25 years.

He said: “It has been my most challenging record yet with a number of crucial elements coming together – the equipment, my top secret bubble solution, weather conditions and most importantly what I call my ‘inner bubble’.

“I needed to approach a near meditative state to create this bubble – closing my eyes, deep breaths and incredible concentration and patience.”

Samsam’s other records have included Most People Inside a Bubble, Most Bubbles Inside a Bubble, Longest Bubble Chain and Largest Frozen Bubble.

The stunt was performed to tie in with the release of the new Dreamworks animation, Home, which is out on Friday (March 20).

The film, which features an all-star voice-cast including Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez, brings to life the loveable Boov, whose technology is based entirely on bubbles, with everything in their fantastical world being spherical.
