A DELEGATION of German students undertook CSI-style science experiments and learned about the history of Birkenhead Park as guests of a Wirral school.

The group of 22 from Wilhelmshaven, a city in the north of the country, were invited to Birkenhead Park School and work with their English peers.

In the last twelve months, the school - formerly known as Birkenhead University Academy - has hosted delegations from two Chinese schools and another from Denmark.

Headteacher Geraint Parry said: "Once again, we are delighted to be hosting visitors from abroad.

"We had the chance to demonstrate to the members of staff who accompanied the trip our methods of delivering a modern curriculum based around traditional values.

"We know that building international relationships and partnerships offers us greater exposure to the benefits of global working and understanding.

"We are always looking to share with our partners the best lessons in teaching and attainment, and we are currently expanding our international outreach to broaden the horizons of our students.

"We have created the environment for our school and others to learn from each other, and we are proud of our international reputation."

Frau Angela Otte-Bremicke, who led the visiting party, said: "The Birkenhead Park School is a beautiful school in a wonderful environment.

"The students here were warm, gracious and keen to both learn from and share experiences with our students.

"It was lovely to see how genuinely friendly and interested The Birkenhead Park School students were in meeting our students, and as staff we had the chance to meet fellow teachers and discuss the similarities and differences between our two schools."

The school changed its name to Birkenhead Park School last week. Its new sponsors are Wirral Academy Trust, an organisation set up by Birkenhead Sixth Form College.
