THREE pupils from Wirral Grammar School for Girls have been shortlisted for Amnesty International’s Youth Awards.

Sophie Holloway, Poppy Carter-Hallam and Alicia Kendall entered a competition encouraging young people aged seven to 19 to express their views on human rights topics of their choosing though reportage, photography, song, fundraising and campaigning.

Sophie was shortlisted in the Upper Secondary Reporter category Poppy is in the running for Further Education Reporter and Alicia is up for Upper Secondary and Further Education Photographer

Their teacher Hayley Smith said: "I am delighted that so many of our students have been shortlisted for this award. This is a competitive and challenging competition; I am extremely proud of their achievements."

Kate Allen, director of Amnesty International UK, said: "Amnesty’s Youth Awards is a great platform for Britain's young generation to creatively and liberally express their views on our freedoms and basic rights.

"Each year we always see an incredible amount of passion and flair from the entries, revealing just how committed so many young people are for standing up for human rights. The judges will have a hard time picking a winner." 

The winners will be announced during a ceremony at the end of April.
