STUDENTS and staff from Wirral Metropolitan College have named North West Cancer Research as their nominated charity for the third year running.

The college has raised over £14,000 for NWCR since 2002 and hopes that they will be able to add to this total again this year.

As a nominated charity, all money raised through the fundraising efforts of students and staff is donated to NWCR.

Planned events this year include quizzes and race nights organised by the Student Union, as well as a Christmas fair and a blue butterfly gala dinner.

NWCR is the leading cancer research charity based in the North West and works to achieve a better understanding of cancer by funding vital research projects in the region.

Bobby Magee from NWCR paid the college a visit and was presented Bobby with a cheque for £4,500 – the total amount of money raised through fundraising during the last academic year.

Bobby said: "After an incredible year of fundraising by the students and staff at Wirral Metropolitan College, we are very fortunate to receive their support for yet another year.

"Research is vital to our understanding of cancer, how to detect it, how to treat it and how to prevent it.

"But this cannot be done without significant funding from charities such as NWCR, which is why the wok of our fundraisers is so important and why every penny we raise really does count.

"On behalf of everyone at North West Cancer Research I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has fundraised for us and look forward to getting involved in this year’s activities and events."
