Wirral teen arrested in scrambler bike crackdown Wirral teen arrested in scrambler bike crackdown

A WIRRAL teenager has been arrested as part of a police crackdown on the illegal use of scrambler bikes.

The 17-year-old was held on suspicion of unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle and has since been released on bail.

His arrest comes as the week-long initiative, which has far seen 23 bikes being seized, draws to a close.

Four other men from Wirral have been arrested for various offences, with one being charged.

Local officers have also issued a section 59 warning relating to the anti-social use motor vehicles.

The operation came after police saw an increase in the number of complaints about the mis-use of the bikes and also linked them to anti-social behaviour.

Chief Superintendent John Martin, area commander for Wirral, said: "Merseyside Police will not tolerate the criminal, or anti social use of scrambler, or quad bikes.

"Sometimes the riders of these bikes don't understand the consequences for local communities and the blight that the use of these bikes can cause.

"Recently across the force there have also been a number of serious injuries and fatalities caused to the riders of these bikes following collisions. “

About time the police decided to take action against the use of these bikes, they destroy our public parks, churning the ground up and leaving trenches so deep you could injure yourself, we also have to put up with the riders of these bikes speeding around our community estates, late at night, with no regard to the noise these bikes make, by law they should not be used in public area's, only on private land. it is a nightmare with these bikers in my local community and has been for many years, just a shame the police have only seized a few and it was only a crackdown on these users for a week
