Wirral Calendar Girls aim to raise cash for breast cancer

The Calendar Girls
A TEAM of brave Wirral women have stripped off for a special calendar in aid of breast cancer.
Taking inspiration from the famous true story of a group of Yorkshire women posing for a nude charity calendar, the project will raise cash for Breast Cancer Breakthrough and Cancer Research for Breast Cancer.
Organiser Estelle Costello wanted the calendar to feature real-life cancer survivors or those who were still battling the disease in a bid to send out a strong message.
And the 52-year-old is confident it will raise thousands of pounds for much-needed research.
She said: “We were given tasks to raise money for breast cancer at work and everyone seemed to be doing cake sales and sponsored walks which of course was raising money but I wanted to do something a bit different.
“Breast cancer is very close to my heart as my sister-in-law is battling it at the moment so I really wanted to make a difference.
“The women in the calendar have lived through the disease or are still going through it and are of all ages so I think it does give a powerful message.
“Some of these women have had to have their breasts removed and their confidence was at rock bottom – some wouldn’t even let their husbands see them without clothes on. But it was amazing to see them looking and feeling gorgeous while their self-esteem soared.”
The calendar features 11 women, each one posing for their own month, with the whole group coming together for December.
And if the project proves to be a hit, Estelle is hoping to create a calendar each year and try to mirror the success of the original Calendar Girls.
Estelle, who posed as Miss October, said: “I think this could take off because no-one has done something like this for breast cancer before.
"It would be incredible if we managed to sell them across the country and raise tonnes of money and I really believe we can.”
