THE deadline for entries into our new awards scheme honouring Wirral’s unsung heroes is this Friday, October 12.

The Golden Globes are a chance to focus on all the positive achievements of those across the borough who never receive the recognition they deserve.

The award categories are Foster Carer Of The Year, Neighbour Of The Year, Parent Of The Year, Local Sportsperson Of The Year, Young hero Of the year, Contribution To Community, Voluntary Organisation Of The year and Adult Learner Of The Year.

Tell us why you feel they should be eligible for a Golden Globe award.

Among those handing out the honours on the night will be Birkenhead-born country star Charlie Landsborough.

He told the Globe recently: "To present something to people of Wirral to honour their achievement is a fantastic and positive thing to do.

"There’s a lot of negative things about Wirral at the moment, but it’s always nice to highlight the positives."

Wirral actress Suzanne Collins will also be joining in the celebrations on the night.

She said: "I'm proud to be involved in the Golden Globes. It's a wonderful idea, about recognising the extraordinary things people do.

"There are a lot of people out there who do a lot that goes unnoticed. This is your chance to say thank you."

The award is sponsored by Tota Fitness Health, Wirral Community NHS Trust, Birkenhead Market, Wirral Metropolitan College, Grange & Pyramids Shopping Centre, Wirral Council and Wirral Partnership Homes and Wirral Biz.

Derek Millar, commercial director for the Grange and Pyramids Shopping Centre said: "We thought it was very important to support the Wirral Globe's search for those special people who live and work amongst us and deserve to be recognized for the good they do.

"I would urge everyone to have a really good think about the people you know who should be put forward for any of these prestigious awards.

"Remember there will be a post box in The Grange and Pyramids for your entries and we will ensure they arrive safely with the Wirral Globe."
