A WIRRAL fundraiser is joining forces with Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 to launch a dynamic new campaign called Stand Up To Cancer.

Louise Aubrey is urging men, women and children across the borough to raise funds for vital research into the disease.

Stand Up To Cancer is a fundraising telethon being brought to the UK for the first time by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. It will unite scientists, celebrities and communities to generate funds, raise awareness and bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

The campaign aims to raise money to accelerate groundbreaking research to help more people survive and ensure more families stay together.

Louise, a Wirral area volunteer manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “We are calling on everyone in the region to follow our lead and Stand Up To Cancer.

“Most of us know people whose lives have been touched by the disease. This is an opportunity to join the fight and make a stand, to help more people survive.”

There are lots of ways to get involved and Stand Up to Cancer. A free fundraising pack is available with lots of great ideas on daring ways to raise money at home or at work – such as getting sponsored to wear your hair spiked-up for a day.

Supporters can also pop into their local Cancer Research UK shops in Moreton and West Kirby to buy a Stand Up To Cancer wristband in four different colours. The wristbands will also be on sale at Tesco and TK Maxx stores throughout October.

Mum-of-one Louise Aubrey, aged 46, added: “Thanks to the incredible progress that’s been made in the last 40 years, more people are surviving than ever before.

“But there’s still so much more to do. It’s not just technology or knowledge that we need to win our fight to beat cancer – it’s funding.

“We are entering a ‘golden age’ of cancer research and every pound we raise takes us a step closer to achieving our goal to beat this disease. By boosting funding right now, the best research teams will be able to develop new treatments, bring cures faster and save more lives.”

A host of stars from television, music and film are already supporting Stand Up To Cancer including Gwyneth Paltrow, Alan Carr, Davina McCall and Embarrassing Bodies’ Dr. Christian Jessen.

Channel 4’s on-air season will build over a whole week culminating in a live fundraising entertainment extravaganza on Friday, October 19. For more details, visit standuptocancer.org.uk
