WIRRAL children will be taking their learning to the big screen as National Schools Film Week gets underway this month.

Youngsters from across the borough will have the chance to catch their favourite films for free at cinemas in Bromborough and Birkenhead.

Organisers of the event want to support classroom teaching by giving schools a “powerful experience” to link elements of the curriculum together.

And Film Education is now calling for more teachers to get in touch to find out more about the festival.

Nick Walker, festival director of National Schools Film Week, said: “The Festival seeks to create a greater awareness and understanding of cinema based on the concept of relationships and dialogues in a variety of films, address issues of cultural exchange and raise awareness amongst teaching professionals of the use of film across the school curriculum.

“This is achieved by in-cinema talks and on-line resources, which give teachers the tools to encourage students to explore and understand new cinematic worlds.”

Films being shown at the Odeon, Bromborough between October 16 – 26 include The Muppets, Brave and Ice Age: Continental Drift, while Birkenhead’s Vue will take part from November 1 – 9.
