Mary celebrates her 101st birthday - surrounded by her 92-strong family

Mary celebrates her 101st birthday - surrounded by her 92-strong family!
A WIRRAL family is asking if any Globe readers can beat their great-great-grandmother’s massive brood!
Mary Sutton, from Moreton, celebrated her 101st birthday on September 13 surrounded by her 92-strong family.
And after totting up the number of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, her daughter Wyn Davies decided to find out if there was anyone out there who could top it.
She said: “When my mother celebrated her 100th birthday last year in a local pub, we filled the whole room with just family – it was amazing!
“I don’t think she can quite believe how many of us there are and I think she gets quite overwhelmed by it all. It would be interesting to see if there are any other grandmother or grandfathers who can beat her number.”
Born in Horwich, Lancashire, Mary worked in the cotton mills before marrying Wallasey-born Alfred Sutton in 1932.
The couple went on to have nine children, 25 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren – with two more on the way.
But despite her advanced years, Wyn said her mother still kept the family entertained and loved nothing more than a good sing.
She said: “She managed to stay at home with us all caring for her until January of this year. She has moderate dementia now so she is in a care home but she still loves singing.
“It a huge achievement to reach such an age and we are all hoping it runs in the family!”
