You don't get an impact on the side of your vehicle while driving in a straight line.
The car has crossed the path of the motorcycle.

Not necessarily, the car might have been turning right from the opposite side of the road and the bike didn't stop. Regardless of who is at fault, I hope the rider is okay

Very easy to try and figure out how this happened, why it happened & who was at fault. There are few facts to go on within the report & looking at the picture, which of course is where the vehicles ended 'after' the collision.]

Regardless, it is an accident and they do happen. Just hope that the rider is ok & thoughts with him & family.

One thing I will highlight though is the age of the car driver - I wonder if this will prove to be a questionable factor. I know that there has been a lot of discussion about elderly drivers on other forums, so watch this space!

Been riding bikes for 35yrs, rarely have I rode without a car/van pulling out on me.
A biker can be travelling within the speed limits, with headlights on, positioned for maximum visibility, and still have their lives put at risk by
careless drivers.

Think Bike!

Can't comment on the above accident until the facts are known, but I wish the rider a full and speedy recovery.

Good motorcyclists that filter through traffic are as safe and courteous as the good drivers around them.
Good driving requires judgement, experience, awareness...careful doesn't always mean safe!

Hi uncatom,

I hope you are keeping well?

I'm not wanting to pick a fight here or anything, but just to make you aware, the article has clearly been edited since yogz66's comment, as I too saw the mistake yesterday.

Fair play to the Globe for the correction, but perhaps they should at least acknowledge that the article has been amended, and is therefore not in it's original form.

There may be other issues we have all crossed swords about, but trying to points score here, when you no doubt realised the reality of the situation, is a poor effort on your part, in my opinion anyway.

Anyway, back to the story, I wish everyone involved a speedy recovery, after what sounds like a really nasty accident.

My apologies,
if this is the case, this is the only post I have read and therefore was unaware of any amendment.

this article has annnoyed me and my family, he has no head injuries involving his brain ect. His injuries at first looked that severe we werent sure he was going to make it, he damaged his jaw, both cheek bones, 2 places in his arm, shattered his pelvis as his hip went through it and his knee and leg. We're just thankful no spine or brain damage was caused.

You sounded very genuine in wishing the parties involved a full recovery, but then you undo it all by harping on about Colas do you just put down the first thing that comes into your head without thinking

I wish to add my concern for all involved
in this incident, I would just like to mention that the car driver is in her mid fifties not 67 as was documented, so any comments about elderly drivers should be revoked! The car driver concerned is also injured and extremely distressed and upset by the incident, this has been a very distressing incident, for all parties. I hope that everyone concerned makes a full recovery.
