Wirral Streetscene shake-up ordered to 'suit the needs of councillors'

A “PUZZLING” difference between the opinion of councillors’ and that of the Wirral public over the performance of the Streetscene service has emerged.

Councillors have been complaining they're dissatisfied with the service they have personally received after contacting Streetscene.

The service is the main point of contact between the local authority and Wirral people reporting problems or making complaints as it covers a huge spectrum of issues from roads maintenance to street-lighting, from parking problems to bin collections.

A report by interim director of technical services Chris McCarthy to this evening’s meeting of the communities scrutiny committee reveals: “It has become clear from various feedback channels many members of the council are seemingly dissatisfied with the service they receive from or through Streetscene.”

The document continues: “There seems to be a puzzling dissonance between the high and sustained measured levels of public satisfaction and what seems to be the total opposite of this as far as many members are concerned.”

The review will be carried out with the specific aim of changing the service “to suit members’ needs.”

It says the councillors’ complaints have to be addressed to give them confidence the service is meeting “what may be their distinctive requirements.”

What do YOU think? Have you had reason to call Streetscene, and were you happy with its response? Please leave a comment below.

So a council service, set up to satisfy the needs of Wirral residents and endorsed by them, is not to the satisfaction of some of our 66 councillors. It is therefore to be reviewed to "suit members' needs."

That says it all, doesn't it?

Forget what the public think - just keep our 'elected members' happy.

Has anybody considered that Streetscene might be so unpopular with councillors is because it cuts out the middleman, thus making the role of councillor in this instance redundant.

I personnaly have never had a problem with street scene, other than it not a 24 hour service.
I have however had numerous problems with so called elected councillors.
Point One: You cannot speak to a Councillor unless you actually live in the ward they represent. Barmy, many of the time when you see an obvious problem that a community representative I.E. Councillor could and should pay attention too, they duck the issue nless you are one of their supporters. That is Wrong.
Point Two: Local elected Councillors should represent all the population in their ward or any ward without any Party Political Bias. Not all the people in any one ward all support the same political party.
Point Three: The Council Cabinet are all members of the same Politicl Party and they are the very small group who make all the decisions, so why do we need 66 Councilors when only 10 of them actually do anything suposidly in your name. Rubbish.

Street Scene never resolve complaints or problems. I have reported a grid that has needed fixing (wait for it) over eight years due to it being blocked. Street scene said it wasn't the councils problem and then Phil Davies also confirmed this and then when i looked into it further i found out it was the councils problem after all. Then i was told by Phil Davies he will get this resolved once and for all and i was told by one of his team that they had contacted United Utilities and was waiting for a reply from them. So i left it over a month and then contacted the ceo of united utilities and i was told wirral council have never contacted them over this. So it just shows there all liars and are not willing to sort anything out.

Only great when you want a car crossing! At reduced prices! Also i thought Colas were the problem? If they dont get issued the work from streetscence how can they do it? Blank check? No, they have to wait for it to be issued from streetscence!

Streetscene are not the problem, it's the councillors who are ! They set the budget , they agree the schemes but when the residents complain or request things the councillors know full well that they can't deliver they choose to blame Streetscene rather than be honest to electorate ! Transparency - they don't know the meaning of the word !!!
