BIRKENHEAD’S annual Festival of Transport brought in record crowds last weekend.

The event, which is now in its fifth year, took place in Birkenhead Park and featured classic cars, steam ‘Gallopers’ and other modes of vintage transport.

There was also a special parade of steam traction engines and wagons as well as live music, a Victorian fairground and craft stalls.

And organiser Stephen McGreal said the event said the festival had been the most successful yet.

He said: “Fine weather on Saturday and a dry Sunday attracted the largest ever visitor turn out to the Birkenhead Park Festival of Transport.

“On behalf of the committee I wish to thank the visitors to our free-to-enter show who generously donated loose change to help offset the cost of the festival. The contribution by Birkenhead Park staff, all volunteers and especially the youngsters of the Army Cadet Force, Air Training Corps and Sea Cadets ensured the smooth and safe running of the event and for this I extend our sincere thanks.

“Not forgetting all the individual enthusiast whose presence at the festival made it such a great success.”
