ANITA Cull’s Great North Run ended in triumph when her charity challenge secured one-and-a-half times the target she set herself.

The Wallasey mum had pledged to raise £1,000 from the run. Now she plans to hand over £1,500 to St John’s Hospice, Wirral.

Anita, 47, tackled the half-marathon course in memory of her father Eric Cull, a Liverpool-based businessman and ex captain of Bidston Golf Club.

She trained six days a week for the race on New Brighton promenade and was joined on the sponsored run by her university student son Mark Brooks.

She launched the Heaven on Earth fund to raise cash for St John’s Hospice which provides specialised care and support for patients with severe and progressive diseases – usually cancer – where curative treatment is no longer possible.

Anita said: “I completed the run in two hours 52 minutes and I am indebted to everyone who made a donation to help me raise more than £1,500 – especially in the current economic climate.”
