Wirral fundraisers to put cards on table for cancer charity

A GROUP of fundraisers from Wallasey will show their hand by hosting a bridge tournament for a local cancer charity next week.

The event, taking place next Wednesday, September 26, is organised by the Wallasey branch of North West Cancer Research Fund.

Competitors will play the popular rubber bridge version of the card game. Guests can also enter a raffle, adding to the fundraising total.

Wallasey Committee secretary Pat Sefton said: “We’re inviting people to bring their best tactics, poker faces and luck to be in with the chance of being crowned tournament champion. We’re sure we’ll raise a lot of money for the charity.”

Anne Jackson, chief executive of NWCRF said: “Without the tireless hardwork and dedication of our committees the charity would not be able to continue funding the research projects into the causes of cancer here in the North West.

"I cannot thank the Wallasey committee enough for their unwavering fundraising this year and wish them luck in the tournament.”

North West Cancer Research Fund provides funding to support essential cancer research here in the North West of England and Wales.

One of the oldest independent charities in the North West, NWCRF funds research at University of Liverpool as well as Lancaster University and Bangor University.

Wednesday's tournament starts at 1.30pm. Admission to the event at Claremount Methodist Hall is strictly by ticket only.

To reserve a table priced at £26, which includes afternoon tea, please contact organisers Val and Geoff Roberts 0151 639 0213. For more information visit www.nwcrf.co.uk
