Bomb squad called in after Woodchurch householder digs up 'grenade'

MERSEYSIDE bomb squad were called into action after an imitation hand grenade was discovered in Woodchurch.

The incident happened in Pemberton Road, at around 2.30pm, when a resident unearthed the device in a back garden.

Police cordoned off the area and nearby houses were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Army Explosive Ordinance Department also attended the scene and examined the device.

However it was found to be an imitation and was removed.
