A WIRRAL woman has told how her brave grandson saved her life not once, but twice in the space of a few months.

Sandra Carver, from Wallasey, was told by doctors that she would have died if seven-year-old Tyler had not found her collapsed in the bathroom last month.

The 49-year-old, who suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), arthritis and emphysema among other conditions, had gone to the toilet during the night when she took a turn a for the worse.

But Tyler, who had been staying overnight at his grandmother’s house, discovered her the following morning and managed to pull her back to bed.

The brave youngster then immediately raised the alarm and Sandra was rushed to hospital to be resuscitated.

And former lifeguard Sandra said she would be “forever grateful” to Tyler.

She said: “Tyler stays with me every weekend and he knows how ill I am so he does worry about me. He usually sleeps upstairs but on this one occasion he asked if he could sleep downstairs with me as he wanted to look after me, he said.

“I had got up to go to the toilet and must have collapsed because he found me there at 8.30am the next morning. He somehow managed to pull me from the bathroom back to my bedroom downstairs and then called for help.

“For a child to do that is just amazing and I am in no doubt he saved my life - the doctors later told me I had just an hour left to live when he found me.”

Despite his young age, the heroic act was not the St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School pupil’s first as he also came to his nan’s rescue in May.

Sandra had fallen unconscious overnight and Tyler had come down early for his breakfast to find her in need of help.

And Sandra, who also suffers from angina and diabetes, said she wants her grandson to know how much he is appreciated.

She added: “I honestly don’t think he realises how amazing he is and that he saved my life. Of course, we all told him afterwards but I don’t think he fully understands how brave he was on both occasions.

“He is a very special little boy and we are very lucky to have him.”

Thankfully a happy ending and what a lovely little boy but if she is so poorly why is she left in some charge of a seven year old overnight and why does she not have either a carer or panic alarm. Feels like a disaster waiting to happen and not one a tiny child should be left to deal with.
