MANAGER of the month Ronnie Moore saw Tranmere Rovers return to the top of League One again after their 2-0 defeat of Coventry City at Prenton Park.
Birkenhead-born midfielder Andy Robinson, who was named as the division’s player of the month, followed Jake Cassidy on to the scoresheet in the second half as Rovers maintained their unbeaten run at home on Saturday afternoon.
The result took Tranmere’s undefeated home streak to 15 games and to the top of the table with 14 points.
On his award, Moore said: “It proves that you’re doing things in the right way - player wise, manager-wise and staff-wise.
“But it’s not all about me, I haven’t got a magic wand. We have a real team effort at the club now and this award is for everyone.”
“We’re top of the league at the moment, but we’re only six games in and it’s important people don’t get carried away.
“The results are building the players’ confidence.
“I may have got the manager of the month, but it’s the players who have gone and done it. Wins aren’t going to happen all season.
“We’ve only got 18 players and four lads on loan. With the players and budget we’ve got we’re doing pretty well.
“We’re aiming for 50 points, but it would be nice to go for 90. All we can do is play the games, grind it out and see what happens. ”
Moore opted for the same starting 11 that took on Crewe last Saturday, but Jake Kirby replaced Adam McGurk on the bench.
Robinson fired the first shot of the game straight at Murphy from the edge of the area in the second minute, while David McGoldrick sent a right foot shot wide of the target from 25 yards at the other end soon after.
Some good play from Cassidy and Liam Palmer went without reward for Rovers, who gradually came back into the game after a shaky start.
Moore said: “We did not start well and for the first 20 minutes I felt Coventry were on top.
Rovers are in League One action against Bury at Prenton Park tomorrow, 7.45pm kick-off, while on Saturday they take on Crawley Town at the Broadfield Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm.
