Work underway on new car parks at Wirral railway stations

Work under way on Birkenhead North carpark Work under way on Birkenhead North carpark

WORK is underway on the creation of car parks at two Wirral railway stations.

Merseytravel, in partnership with the European Regional Development Fund, is developing park and ride facilities at Bidston and Birkenhead North Stations.

There will be 464 parking spaces, with dedicated Blue Badge parking, lighting and CCTV coverage, secure fencing and landscaping within the sites.

The aim is to improve access onto the rail network with links to Wrexham, Birkenhead and Liverpool.

The parks are being constructed on former brownfield land made available through the council. Work is due to be completed in December.

Councillor Liam Robinson, Chair of Merseytravel, said: "Many of our park and ride facilities are already very busy or at capacity and we know that people rely on them as part of their regular journeys.

"With passenger usage on Merseyrail on the up we are working hard to provide park and ride facilities across the region and we are delighted to be able to add two more stations to the existing provision."

Bidston and Birkenhead North?

Surely a joke?

Taxpayers' money being used to create a buffet for car thieves!

You're a 2 bob snob cheesy, who is not in possession of the facts.

These parks have European funding and if you had taken the time to check out these sites as I have when cycling it is quite obvious that Birkenhead North needs one but as for Bidston, I don't think so, as it already has a carpark with about 15 spaces which I have never seen full..

European Funding? What utter tosh.

We send our money to Brussels. Corrupt Eurocrats cream some off the top then redistribute the balance throughout Europe - including subsidies to what we would call allotment holders but which the French insist are farmers - then send some of it back to us in the form of 'European Funding'. We are then expected to make the usual gratifying noises before the whole unedifying business starts round again.

kinell Dave, keep your voice down... New Brighton has entered a new era, its having a much deserved new lease of life, if the lake car park is full, what about Morrisons, or the Travelodge car park?

There is a lot of cars always parked outside Birkenhead north so it will be great for that. I don't see why people have to have a moan about every little thing! The whole of Wirral has bad people living here so slagging certain areas off is just ignorant. I guess people always have to moan about something. It's just impossible for people to be happy these days. Life is short, just be happy!

jack boot ,what am i on about ,well i was a regular visitor to n b ,i attended the meetings at the town hall for a better n b ,and was witness to a lot of bickering and the points put over by parties of both sides ,thing is ,i could in the past come down to n b ,parked up by the lake for sailing a model yacht ,no problems then ,now it has been built and running as the powers that won ,got it ,now not only myself but quite a lot of other people cannot get there early to park up ,you say why not park in morrisons ,try it without shopping you are likely to get a ticket ,so you see jack boot ,i do have a valid case ,it is o k for the local 2 dozen to sail a model boat ,and park up ,after that ,not so ,quite a few people have raised this issue with the local authorities, but the answer is ,,,,you voted for what you got , NOT TRUE
