Charlotte Fest raises thousands for Wirral charity

A MUSIC festival in memory of a Wirral teenager who was tragically killed in a car crash has raised thousands of pounds for a charity set up in her memory.
Charlotte Fest, launched last year following the death of 19-year-old Charlotte Churchill, was held in Vale Park, Wallasey, on Saturday.
More than 700 people came to the park, helping raise just under £2,200 for Charlotte’s Brightside CLC – the teenagers’ charity set up to raise funds for a safe place for young people to hang out in.
Among the musicians performing in Vale Park were Ally Mac and Marc Kenny, Charlie Naylor, Kyle Corrin, Danny Dooley from Tequila, Meat Loaf tribute Andy Atine, Black Hand, JC and the Two Steps and Orange Room.
There was also entertainment from Nutty Nige disco and compere aka Nige Woolfall-Smith. A fundraising event at The Boot in Liscard that night, which included male waxing and other ideas, raised £700.
Charlotte's mum Angie told the Globe: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part, and everyone who came to watch the performers.
“It was a brilliant day, and everybody who took part did a fantastic job. It certainly helped get the charity recognised.“ Nursery nurse Charlotte died in April 2011 when the car in which she was a passenger hit a tree.
Following her death, Angie threw herself into fundraising for Brightside which will provide a safe place for local young people to hang out.
And after a series of taster workshops for the charity last weekend, Angie is waiting for the final go ahead to officially open the centre.
She said: “Realistically, we are looking at moving into the premises by the end of the month, to start work. It’s a very exciting time.”
Looking ahead to next year, Angie added: “In order to keep the centre going we’ll be holding two charity events each year - CharlotteFest and a second event at Easter. The organisers will be meeting on Tuesday to finalise the dates of these two events.”
