Competitors gear up for New Brighton prom rally
12:30pm Tuesday 4th September 2012 in News
COMPETITORS and spectators are gearing up for the AVO Performance Suspension Promenade Stages Rally which takes place in New Brighton later this week.
The promenade will be transformed into one of the UK’s most popular and exciting rally venues, with the event taking place on Friday and Saturday.
Following the great success of last year’s momentous 30th anniversary celebrations of the rally, the rally’s organisers Wallasey Motor Club have decided to repeat the flood lit Super Special Stage on the Friday evening prior to the traditional rally on the Saturday.
The Super Special Stage will see two cars leave the start line at the same time and race not only against each other but also the clock.
This is the only Super Special type of event that is run in the UK and on closed public roads.
The format for Saturday remains the same as competitors tackle a further 10 demanding stages around the twists and turns of the promenade.
By the end of the rally more than 50 stage miles will have been covered and there will only be seconds dividing the winner and the eventual class winners from their rivals.
Notable local contenders will include Paul Evans in his MK2 Ford Escort and David Burns in his BAT Motor Sport prepared Vauxhall Corsa 1600.
Wallasey Motor Club provide will provide live commentary of the rally keeping the spectators informed as the competition between the top teams develops stage by stage.
The rally action starts from 5.30pm on Friday, as 90 rally crews tackle the Super Special Stage, cars run in reverse seeded order with the fastest cars being the last to start.
Then from 8am on Saturday the exciting action continues all day.
