Dog walker attacked during early morning robbery
A WOMAN was attacked and robbed as she walked her dog in Birkenhead in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The 53-year-old was near the Lifestyle Express store in Woodchurch Road at around 4.45am when she was approached by a young woman.
She got into conversation with the dog walker before demanding she hand over her purse.
When she refused, the woman was punched in the face by the offender who then rifled through the victim's pockets.
The offender stole a set of keys from the woman before running off in the direction of Birkenhead Town Centre.
The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident but has been left very shaken.
The offender is described as being white, 19-20 years old and around 5ft 3 ins tall.
She had short to medium length blonde hair tied back in a ponytail and she was wearing a light coloured t-shirt, a dark jacket and trousers.
Detective Sergeant Toni Tate, said: "This was a cowardly and unprovoked attack on a woman who was just walking her dog. She has been left very shaken and upset by the incident.
"We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact us.
"Offences of this nature are completely unacceptable and we appeal to the community to come forward with information so we can take action against the offender."
