THE world-famous Red Arrows will take centre stage at this year’s Hoylake Lifeboat Day.

The town’s lifeboat open day, which takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27, will feature the much-loved acrobatics team as well as a funfair and charity stalls.

It will be a welcome return for the jets which were due to perform at last year’s event but were cancelled last minutes following a tragic accident just 10 days earlier.

One of the team was killed during a display in Bournemouth and subsequent events were put on hold.

However organiser Carole Jackson said everyone was looking forward to seeing the Red Arrows in action again.

She said: “It's a great honour for us to have the Reds displaying again at Hoylake Lifeboats Open Day.

"Last year's event raised more than £20,000 for the RNLI which was a massive achievement considering the day was cold, wet and windy!”

She added: “Open Day is a real team effort from lifeboat crew, partners, helpers and committee members - everyone has a part to make sure the day runs smoothly.

“Because the Red Arrows are appearing in the afternoon, people should remember to leave plenty of time for their journey-there will be some traffic congestion getting to and leaving the event-so public transport is the best way to travel.”

Hoylake, West Kirby and New Brighton will also be on display throughout the day while street actors will also be on hand to entertain visitors.
