SHOCKED friends and family have paid tribute to a Wirral teenager who was killed in a motorbike accident at the weekend.

Daniel Chong died on Sunday after he came off an off-road scrambler motorbike and hit a lamppost in Riverview Road, Bromborough.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance but was later pronounced dead.

Following the tragedy, police cordoned off the area and an investigation was launched.

Now the youngster’s friends have left heartfelt messages on his Facebook page to pay their respects.

One close friend said: “You will be missed more than you will ever know, you were a friend that I was lucky to have. God bless mate R.I.P.”

And a heartbroken family member posted: “Rest in peace Danny, you’re a cousin I’ll never forget, we had so many great memories when we were little that I can remember! No-one deserves this especially not you, you'll never be forgotten by anyone..we all love you.”

A memorial page was also set up for the Wallasey School pupil on the social networking site where more than 3,000 people have so far paid their respects.

One message read: “Can’t believe you are gone, had the best times of my life with you, mate. Got so many good times with you, hopefully one day we can meet up again and talk about them. Always thinking about you every minute of the day. Love you, mate.”

Following the outpouring of support, Daniel’s mum Lynne thanked people for their thoughts.

She wrote: “Daniel son, I know you will be looking at all the messages tributes and flowers that have been left purely because you are special to so many people. People we don't even know are leaving flowers and messages here and in the hut and on the lamppost which I hate to mention (sorry, son).

“On behalf of Lewis, Daniel and myself thank you so much for all your good wishes. They have brought me great comfort and I read them all. RIP Daniel my darling boy. I know you are here and I can feel you all around me. Sleep well baby.”

Floral tributes were also left at the scene where the incident happened, with one card reading: “You were only around for a short time but you made a mark on everybody you met, lad.

“My thoughts are with your mum and Lewy. Sleep well, lad.”

Daniel’s friends are now planning a special event in Sandbrook Park, Moreton on Sunday night to set off sky lanterns in memory of the teenager.

It is believed that money will be collected to be donated to the family.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Road's Policing Investigation Unit on 0151 777 5444 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111

I am deeply sorry for the family of this teenager & would urge police & local authorities to try & put a stop to these youngsters putting both their & other peoples lives at risk. .I would ask other parents who have children with motor bikes to disable them to avoid another tragedy happening .Again my sympathy to the family nobody deserves to loose a son in such tragic circumstances.

The original story mentions that the bikes were being unloaded from a transit which means a parent or a least an older adult was not only condoning this behaviour but helping them do it!

The local Chief Inspector was in the Globe a few months ago saying that there is nowhere legal to ride off-roaders on the Wirral on public land.

These bikes are a tragic, dangerous menance and need to be dealt with before more families go through the same as this on.

this is tragic, but it's not the first or the last, a certain element choose to ride offroaders on the road, invariably with no license, insurance, mot, tax or protection, at speed trying to impress their mates and accidents will happen, if he was actually offroad it is a lot safer!
