an off road vehicle is just that, made for "off road".
Last time I looked there were no lamposts in fields or where off road events take place.

However I have sympathy for the family of this lad.

All my sympathy to the poor family, but I have seen this far too often, its called irresponsibility. Kids on trails bikes have become a definite problem on our roads, many cases with no licence, no training and no helmets.
