8:00am Saturday 4th August 2012 in News
WIRRAL celebrity chef Paul Hollywood is among the line-up for this year’s Liverpool Food & Drink Festival.
The Wallasey-born 'Great British Bake Off' judge will host the final heat of the 'Great Merseyside Bake Off' during the festival's launch, taking place in Sefton Park over the weekend of September 1-2.
Open to all amateur bakers across the region, the competition will culminate in a bake off between 12 finalists.
Also taking part in the opening weekend’s celebrations will be celeb chefs Lisa Faulkner, Tom Kitchin, Aiden Byrne, The Fabulous Baker Brothers and Norman Musa.
Thousands are expected to flock to Sefton Park for the launch, which will feature a real ale beer festival, master classes, and celebrity chef demonstrations.
Visitors will have the chance to watch celebrity chefs cook in the open air on a specially designed grill and also sample some of their mouth-watering creations.
Top Malaysian chef, Norman Musa, will share some top tips during his Malaysian cooking master classes, while Lisa Faulkner will demonstrate favourite recipes from her bestselling book.
Tom Kitchin, Aiden Byrne and The Fabulous Baker Brothers will be challenged to create sumptuous delights, using only the finest ingredients from food suppliers and local producers taking part in the festival, including artisan bakers The French Corner, Port of Lancaster Smokehouse and the Chilli Pepper Company.
Celebrations will continue for the rest of the week with special events at venues across the city, including wine tasting in the Palm House at Sefton Park, the Liverpool Food & Drink Awards and a closing party at the Epstein theatre.
Denise Harris, from festival organisers SK Events, said: "It's great to see how much the festival’s reputation has grown over the years and we are delighted to have had such strong interest from some of the country’s most respected and successful food stars.
"The Liverpool Food & Drink Festival has become a real highlight of the foodie calendar and we look forward to staging another fantastic event this year.”
