AN exhibition of paintings by former press photographer Tony Kenwright opens in Birkenhead next week.
‘Out of My Head’, will be on view at the Rathbone Studio in Argyle Street from Saturday, August 11 until October 6.
It features the photographer’s paintings - local scenes, portraits, imagined views and abstract expressionism completed over the past six months. But there isn’t a single photograph among them.
Tony worked in local papers for more than 25 years and this is his first major exhibition in his native Wirral.
An award winning photographer, Tony has covered some of the major news events of recent years and travelled extensively through the UK and abroad covering sporting events. His work has been published in many national and regional titles.
On the forthcoming exhibition he said: “I think the news value is in the differences between photography and painting.
“With photography I had to take what I saw. With painting I can paint what I want to see.
“I’ve had some success with sales and now consider myself a full-time artist. So much so in fact that I’ve had to stop selling stuff so I can get enough work together to mount the exhibition.”
The exhibition will be open for viewing from 3pm-6pm weekdays. More details are from www.tonykenwright.com
