Rory Taylor from Heswall
A WIRRAL singer hoping to win the part of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s next ‘Jesus’ is through to the semi-final of ITV's Superstar.
Rory Taylor from Heswall sailed through to tonight’s show after avoiding elimination from the contest.
The 24-year-old, who is in local band 5,4,3,2,1 with his brothers and cousin, took on David Bowie and Queen classic Under Pressure and once again won praise from the judging panel.
Jason Donovan said he could “deliver the part of Jesus” while iconic composer Lloyd Webber said he gave the “performance of the night.”
And Spice Girl Mel C said: “I could listen to you all day.”
Rory, who performed alongside Take That star Gary Barlow with the other contestants last night, told the Globe today: “I can't believe I'm in the semi-finals, it's been a long slog to get here but it's all worth it.
"To get put through by the public last night was an amazing feeling and I want to say a huge thankyou to everyone back home for all their support - it's overwhelming.
"Performing on stage with Gary Barlow was incredible and he was so down-to-earth and helpful.
"It would be an absolute dream come true to win the whole thing and would mean so much to me so I'm going to give it everything I've got"
Rory will now battle for a place in the grand final tomorrow which will see one contestant win the role of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Superstar will be on ITV1 tonight at 9pm.
