Merseytravel wants your views on improving public transport Merseytravel wants your views on improving public transport

MERSEYTRAVEL is to hold a series of meetings with Wirral commuters to get their views and suggestions on improving public transport.

The Wirral Customer Forums, headed by boardmember and Seacombe Labour councillor John Salter, are designed to replace the recently disbanded advice panels and women's forums.

Similar Forums will be held four times a year in each of the five districts of Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.

Councillor Mary Rasmussen, Chair of Merseytravel's corporate social responsibility committee, said: "Our previous consultation panels served their purpose but are now out-dated.

"We need to be much broader in our approach to canvassing views, and this will enable us to truly put the customers at the forefront of moving Merseyside forward.

"The Customer Forums will be more inclusive – everybody is invited along to have their say – and the views of our customers will help us shape the future of transport on Merseyside."

The Wirral Forums will be held in the Lauries Centre, Claughton Road, Birkenhead at 2pm next Wednesday, July 18.

Meetings will also be held on Wednesday October 17, Wednesday January 16 and Wednesday, April 17.

Further details are from www.merseytravel.gov.uk/events.

Simple - give us a service that works. I have lost count of the number of times travelling on the Wirral line to Liverpool, being taken off trains at Birkenhead and having to wait, instead of the train going direct to Liverpool like its supposed to do. Or even when you do manage to get to Liverpool, finding the service has terminated at James St, turfed off the train and having to walk to Lime St as there is no shuttle bus. I appreciate work needs to be carried out at times, but the so called line failures that occur are a disgrace.

The CEO Maarten Spaargaren of Mersey Rail just doesn't care about staff or his customers. His staff caused annoyance to three local homes in Birkenhead and caused all three residents to have to leave there home and he wouldn't give compensation or anything for the disturbance of having to leave there home all he could and would offer is a ticket to Chester Zoo. He should be ashamed of himself and his staff.

Its not just the trains, the bus network on Wirral leaves a lot to be desired. When you compare both sides of the Mersey, Wirral are most certainly the poorer cousins.

What a stupid and pointless money consuming exercise.

Surely the place to get an honest cross section of the bus users is in Birkenhead Bus Station, not some stupid community centre in Claughton Road.

On some rail franchises, the meet the manager events are held in stations. Basic common sense - lacking at Merseydrivel.

Slash the lavish expenses budget of the Merseytravel committee, and reinvest that money in improving the service on the ground.
It might not make much difference, but it would at least prove that the organisation cares more about the commuters who use Merseytravel for legitimate purposes than about the passengers on the gravy train.

I have not used the areas buses for so long I cannot remember, I do not live in the area now BUT, where I live, near Birmingham, the trains are spotless, seats are clean, floors etc and they are a pleasure to use. By comparison, I used merseyrail (Bhead to Lpool) recently and was disgusted with the pathetic state of the trains, ripped seats, dirty floors, rubbish, spit, even a few cigarette ends and the smell of sweat and beer.

I just wish the political forums being used to discuss public transport, where actually put outside the 9 to 5 routine. So commuters that do actually use the transport every morning can attend.

In my opinion the standard of public transport is not good enough, and it is very much overpriced. When your buying day tickets for buses which charge £4.60 over in Wallasey and you can pay £3.30 in Liverpool for the same thing in terms of distance, you don't need to be Einstein to work out that your being shortchanged somewhere. Liverpool at the end of the day has more than one bus company and more than one train provider. If this was considered in Wallasey the price would go down and the standards up.
