A sting in the tale for council officers

A sting in the tale for council officers A sting in the tale for council officers

Chief officers could soon be obliged to consider the welfare of bees when they are drawing up new planning policies.

A meeting of the full Wirral Council on Monday will hear the authority has an important part to play in retaining and creating an environment in which pollinating insects can "survive and thrive.”

A notice of motion by Eastham Lib Dem councillor draws members’ attention to research by Friends of the Earth which says we need bees to pollinate many important food crops, including most fruit and vegetables.

It goes on: “Areas that bees and other pollinators rely on will be vulnerable to development pressures and that strong Local Plan policies should protect areas important to bees.“

It stresses new developments should create areas for nature including "green roofs" and other natural spaces.

Accordingly, the council will request its officers to study the concerns raised by Friends of the Earth and to take these into account when framing and updating local policies.

The motion will be subject to a vote.

Fine just as long they can tell the difference between the lifecycle of a bee and a wasp.

The welfare of bees?.What about the welfare of their staff and the wirral public.
Survive is about the best we can hope for.
Thrive is a complete non-starter.

And about time too! without bee's we won't live long on this planet, get rid of the borders of Geranien's and sow medow type plants which will attactive Butterfiles and other wildlife, they look more colourful, less maintenance and cheaper in the long run, thus saving Taxpayers money

MX

as has already been mentioned - if pollinatign bees dispeared humanity would be extinict within 18 months they ARE more important than humans.

If we did go maybe nature would statr again with a species that wasn't so destructive towards itself and the environment......

Bees.Schmees.
I know about the pollination thing and bees are going nowhere.Last years drastic decline is being reversed.
They thing is when they sting me I end up in hospital so its personal and frankly I know that " Wirral has heard the cry of the earth" but isn't this the same Council who ordered the dismantling of a community garden?.

My thoughts exactly, they should be encouraging these gardens for the benefit of bees, not taking 'bully boy' tactics. Unfortunately joined up thinking and cooperation seem to have been deleted from the Council lexicon amongst other phrases!

Edited by myself to read the way I believe the Council should be prioritising it's responsibilities.

(I hope you don't mind Ed)

The Wirral circus carries on with the 66 clowns (councillors) asking chief officers to look after bees, they cannot manage basics of honesty, integrity anf prfessional transparency what chance have the bees got. Its about time the 66 clowns who call themselves Councillors focussed on the dire reality of the situation in Wirral and properly looked at its responsiblities and the very real needs of electorate especially the disadvantaged and the vulnerable

Those poor wee bees!
If their future on Wirral is dependent on those B's on Wirral Borough Council, then for their own Health and Safety,
they had better buzz off to a sunnier clime ASAP!
This mob are incapable of acting in any way that is of benefit to the community they are supposed to serve, so what chance do bees have?.
If they do leave, I would love them to give a right royal stinging to every last one of them as a parting shot.

We all know what tends to happen to living creatures once Wirral Council takes their welfare to heart.

Klonowski... get ready to write a report on the overcharging of vulnerable bees wishing to occupy hives on the Wirral.

Must be all the "Gardening Leave" making experts out of high ranking council employees.

Ably supervised and under the watchful eye of over 60 of the most useless elected councilors Wirral has ever encountered.

So far our very expensive and useless 66 councilors have failed to know who is doing what, when, why, and who for in any of the numerous departments of Wirral Council.

Me-thinks they have been too busy guzzling at the trough of plenty whilst counting their obscenely lavish expenses.

So far we have not heard from one of them about how the appalling situation is to be corrected, they will not even release the full details of expensive reports we have paid for and are still paying for.
