A WIRRAL teacher has received a prestigious award for his 'outstanding' contribution to teaching German.

Charles Ellis from Brookdale Primary school in Greasby has worked hard to ensure all pupils have four years of learning the language before they start secondary school.

He has also organised and lead a number of visits to a partner school in Hamburg and has hosted reciprocal visits.

In recognition of his dedication and commitment Mr Ellis was presented with the award by the German Ambassador and minister for education, Nick Gibb, the education minister, during a special edcucational conference in London.

The award aims to recognise outstanding achievement by individual teachers of German in the UK, to pay tribute to the work of German teachers in the UK and to highlight the commitment of the winners' schools to modern language teaching.
